As a content creator, you’re probably already creating content for multiple platforms. Instagram, perhaps? But after all that hard work, that content doesn’t have to only live in one place. Now, we’re making it easy to bring your content from Instagram to Pinterest with a new way to seamlessly connect your accounts.
With this feature, you can get the most out of the content that you’re creating. From your latest recipe video, OOTD photo or carousel of home décor inspo, you can auto-publish your Instagram content on Pinterest, delivering it to our platform’s over 518 million monthly active users all in just a few taps.
When you connect your Instagram account, your content does double duty. Create once and share on two platforms, allowing you to reach multiple audiences. You only need to opt in once to auto-publish and all of your new posts will be shared to Pinterest. No more manual uploads to two platforms needed.
Start by claiming your Instagram account in your Pinterest account settings, and Pinterest will automatically create Pins whenever you post to your Instagram feed. Posts-turned-Pins include your original image/video, description copy and a link back to the Instagram post. For carousel posts, each image and video will upload as individual Pins.
Bonus: Your previous posts can come with you, too. Once you’ve claimed your Instagram account, you’ll have an option to import your posts from the last 90 days. Combine your latest content with auto-published new content and you have a solid content bank to boost your Pinterest presence, plus a built-in strategy for posting consistently on Pinterest.
The claiming feature also ensures that you get credit for your work. You’ll get attribution for Pins linking to your Instagram, whether they were saved by you or someone else on Pinterest. When you claim your account, a link to your Instagram profile will be displayed on your Pinterest profile alongside your Pinterest username. As new audiences come across your profile, your Instagram account will be highlighted, growing your reach and audience on and off Pinterest.
Pins created from Instagram posts are also available for you to monitor in your Pinterest analytics. Dive deep into how people on Pinterest are engaging with your content and get intel that you can use to inspire future Pins.
There are two parts to connecting your Instagram account: claiming your Instagram account and allowing auto-publish.
If you want to be able to import video content, make sure that you have a business account first.
Step by step
Log in to Pinterest
Go to your Profile page
Tap on the three-dot/edit icon and select ‘Settings’
Select ‘Claimed accounts’
Select ‘Instagram’
Tap on ‘Claim’
Log in to Instagram in the pop-up window
Toggle permissions for ‘Profile information’ and ‘Content’ to on, then select ‘Allow’
On the Instagram settings page, choose where to save your posts to by selecting ‘Profile’ and then clicking on one of your boards. If you prefer to save your posts on your profile directly (and not in a board), ‘Profile’ is the default selection.
Review or edit the tick box option to publish your posts from the last 90 days.
Tap ‘Allow’ to complete your Instagram account claiming.
When your set-up is complete, your Instagram settings page will display the account name that you connected. It may take up to 72 hours for Pinterest to sync your posts. If there are existing Pins that link to your Instagram account, you should see attribution for these Pins within a few days.
If you want to edit your Instagram claiming settings later, follow steps 1 to 4 in the account-claiming process. You may select ‘auto-publish’ to either update the board where your Pins are saved or to pause auto-publish entirely.
Please note: Instagram posts shared to private Pinterest accounts and boards will be private. Audio for Instagram videos with unlicensed music will be muted.
Once your Instagram content is on Pinterest, you’ll want to make sure to optimise your Pins so that they’re set up for success.
Add an engaging title and edit the description to include keywords related to the Pin. This will provide context and help people to easily discover your content. And as always, curation is key! Try organising the designated board that your Pins are saved to with thematic sections, or give your board a visually appealing aesthetic. You can also save your Pins to multiple relevant boards to help your content reach a broader audience.
